Often referred to as “three parks in one,” Olympic National Park encompasses
three distinct ecosystems -- rugged glacier capped mountains with their sub
alpine forests and wildflower meadows, magnificent stands of old growth and
temperate rain forests, and more than sixty miles of wild Pacific coastline.
There are sixteen species of wildflowers and animals in the park that exist no
place else on earth. An early visit will be to Hurricane Ridge, where we can
view mountaintops and glaciers (an area that receives 500 inches of snow per
year) and the resident Columbia black-tailed deer. Fog often hangs over the
rivers in the deep valleys and the turquoise-colored water flows rapidly
through the glacier-fed rivers and lakes, and over the numerous waterfalls.
The shrouded canopy of the Hoh Rain Forest offers great midday shooting
opportunities. Unforgettable sunsets visit the rock stacks and beaches of the
peninsula’s west coast.
This
workshop will start in Port Angeles for best access to Hurricane Ridge, Lake
Crescent, and other nearby features. We’ll then move to Forks for rainforest
and coastal landscape photography. In between we may visit a local lavender
farm as well as some unusual photo opportunities within Port Angeles itself.
