The Outer Banks are located off the coast of North Carolina and consist of a 150 mile long band of barrier islands. The islands vary from developed, residential areas at one extreme to the wilds of Cape Hatteras National Seashore at the other. Several picturesque light houses (including the tallest in the United States) protect ships from the coast. The tallest sand dune on the east are here at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular with water on both the east and west sides of the islands. Fishing villages add other image opportunities. The area is also rich in history from numerous shipwrecks to the Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk. Join us as we explore in detail this unique ecological area of our country’s east coast. All gallery images are made by Steve Alterman, author of the book Outer Banks Edge. Steve is still a film shooter and as such, will not be available for digital instructional techniques. He is, however, the author of several books, two about the Outer Banks. He lives in the Outer Banks and will provide the absolute best locations for oustanding images from this unique area.
