The Outer Banks are located off the coast of North Carolina and consist of a 150 mile long band of barrier islands. The islands vary from developed, residential areas at one extreme to the wilds of Cape Hatteras National Seashore at the other. Several picturesque light houses (including the tallest in the United States) protect ships from the coast. The tallest sand dune on the east are here at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular with water on both the east and west sides of the islands. Fishing villages add other image opportunities. The area is also rich in history from numerous shipwrecks to the Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk. Join us as we explore in detail this unique ecological area of our country’s east coast. All gallery images are made by Steve Alterman, author of the book Outer Banks Edge. Steve also plans to join us for the workshop, offering his experiences with the area.
